It’s probably not too much of a stretch to say that I am an Amazon addict. It’s where I do most of my shopping, because who has time to go to the store? Over the years, I’ve learned a few useful tricks to save money on Amazon that I’m excited to share with you. If you do any shopping at Amazon, be sure to read through these tips and pin this article for later reference!

Prime Video and Music

Did you know that if you have an Amazon Prime membership, you have access to a vast library of music, movies, and television shows? I’m talking millions of titles from all kinds of genres. Whether you’re into classical or K-pop, action or drama, you will be able to find something you like through Amazon Prime Music or Prime Video.

What I really enjoy is rediscovering shows that have been off the air for years and binge watching them. They are constantly adding new titles so it’s worth checking frequently for the shows and movies you love. They also have great programming for kids, including original series.

If you’ve been considering cutting out cable to save money, Prime Video is the perfect way to supplement your streaming options.

Subscribe and Save

Subscribe and Save is a MUST for busy families. How many times have you had to do a last-minute store run because you realized you only had half a roll of toilet paper left? Or you went to change the baby and realized you were on your last diaper? Or threw in a load of laundry only to discover you had no more laundry detergent?

With Subscribe and Save, you sign up for recurring deliveries on the products you use the most. Set your delivery frequency and schedule and never worry about running out of essentials again. Even better, if you have five subscriptions delivered to the same address within the same month, you can save up to 15 percent!

For families with small children, the savings are even better: set up five subscriptions per month on common baby items (food, diapers, wipes, etc.) and save up to 20 percent through Amazon Family. That equals big savings, especially with how quickly little ones go through diapers!

Going on vacation for awhile and don’t need your items? Not going through your items as quickly as you thought and getting a backlog? No problem! Adjust your schedule anytime. Skip the next delivery or change the frequency of your deliveries whenever you need. Before each delivery Amazon will send you an email to review your subscriptions. Make any changes you need and you’re all set!

Not only is Subscribe and Save a great time saver, it’s also a great way to save money on Amazon with the products you use the most!

Warehouse Deals

This was an amazing find I had a few months ago. My husband and I were looking for a top carrier for our upcoming camping trip (we’re big on camping if  you hadn’t noticed!). The models we were looking at were pretty expensive and I was scouring the internet trying to find a better deal. I’m willing to pay for quality, but I still look for the best deal!

I came across a listing on Amazon that was about $150 cheaper than anywhere else I had seen, but it was marked a “warehouse deal.” I had never seen that before so I did some digging.

Amazon Warehouse is a division of Amazon selling used goods. Some may be just open box, whereas others have been used and refurbished. All products go through a quality check and are assigned a level from “like new” to “acceptable.” Choose the level that suits your needs. Most items are Prime-eligible and if an item doesn’t meet your needs, Amazon’s thirty-day return policy still applies.

For our top carrier, I chose the “like new” option. It was described as not having the original packaging but otherwise, was a new, never used product. I was just going to throw away the packaging anyway, so I jumped at the chance to save $150!

Here’s what the package looked like when it arrived. It’s not pretty, but certainly worth the extra $150 I had in my pocket!

Especially if you’re looking at a larger purchase, take a look at Amazon Warehouse to see if you can score some big savings!

Coupons

Amazon has coupons! Amazing, right? And they’re so easy to use. If a product has a coupon available, it will show up right underneath the purchase price. All you have to do is click on the coupon and it will be applied to your order. It doesn’t get any easier to save money on Amazon than that!

You can also search for coupons by clicking on “Today’s Deals.” In the left-hand sidebar you will see a Deal Type sub-menu. Click on coupons to see all of the items Amazon currently is offering coupons on. If you don’t need an item urgently, check out the coupon and sale sections frequently and snatch items up when they have coupons or go on sale! A little pre-planning can rack up savings quickly and is a great way to save money on Amazon!

Honey

I’ve talked about the Honey browser extension before, but it’s worth repeating, especially because it can save you so much money on Amazon! Download the Honey browser extension and an icon will appear in your toolbar. When the icon changes color while you shop, it has found a coupon code or discount.

What makes Honey such a powerful tool to save money on Amazon is that it compares all of the various sellers to make sure you’re getting the best deal. I have Amazon Prime so I usually purchase items directly from Amazon to get my free shipping. Recently, Honey found me a lower price seller that still offered free shipping. Without Honey I never would have looked at this deal and would have paid more because of it! Download it today to start saving!

Registries

Amazon offers both wedding registries and baby registries. If you’re recently engaged or newly expecting, the idea of doing your entire registry on Amazon might seem a bit overwhelming.

Trust me, it is soooooooo much easier to do a registry on Amazon than in the store! You have as much time as you want to add items and you can read reviews and comparison shop to find the best products for you. Especially with Babies R Us being no more, there aren’t a lot of stores left with large selections of baby items. As you know Amazon has thousands (millions?) of products available to suit every need and every budget.

Plus, Amazon makes it so easy to add new products, update quantities, and mark priorities so you can flag the items you want or need the most. They also have registry guides to help you think through what you might need, but if you’re planning a baby registry, check out my post on things you don’t really need for baby first!

Here are some other great perks with both the wedding and the baby registries:

  • Completion discounts for items remaining on your registry after the event date (within a limited time frame)
  • Add products from other website directly to your registry
  • The fast, free shipping you’ve come to expect from Amazon
  • Free returns

Obviously the completion discount is how you save money on Amazon with your registries. Use any Amazon gift cards you get and clear out as much of your registry as you can before your completion discount expires!

Wish Lists

Amazon wish lists are so useful. You can create them for yourself or for family or friends. Add items throughout the year so you don’t forget all of your great ideas when it’s time to shop.

So wish lists are certainly convenient, but how do they help you to save money on Amazon? Once you add items to your wish list, you can get notifications when the price on an item drops. When you get these notifications, make your purchase to save money on a gift you were going to buy anyway. You may need to store your gift for awhile, but it’s worth it to save money!
